The National Gallery houses the largest collection of artworks from the High Middle Ages to the 20th century, including a permanent exhibition of works by Zoran Mušič (1909–2005) as well as temporary exhibitions. The collection, divided into historical periods, comprises nearly 600 works of European and Slovenian art ranging from medieval church art and Baroque masterpieces to works by contemporary artists.
