The site of the fountain marked the end of the water supply that supplied water to the city. The current Baroque appearance of the fountain dates back to 1666 when it was reconstructed by the podestà Lorenzo Da Ponte. The octagonal basin with an arch, symbolising a bridge (connected with the name of the podestà), is adorned with pyramids, coats of arms, stone faces, and other details, along with a fence.
The fountain remained in use until 1898.
