Koper's Bell Tower, or city tower, 54 meters high, originates from Romanesque fortification architecture dating back to the 12th century, although there is no exact information. It was reconstructed between 1418 and 1480, and got its present appearance in 1664. The big clock, in the middle of the tower, dates to 1463. At first it was an independent building, but then in 1488 it was connected to the Church of the Assumption of Mary.
