The Dominican Monastery, founded on the western edge of the city in 1230 by Matilda, the widow of Frederick III of Ptuj, served its mission until the dissolution of the monastery in 1785 when the buildings were converted into a military barracks. In the early 20th century, the most beautiful spaces were dedicated to museum collections, and today this exceptional monument serves as a cultural center.
Open to visitors from April to October, the monastery complex showcases Gothic and Baroque architecture, with a beautiful park adjacent to it offering views of the Drava River.
