At the top of the town rises the Parish Church of St. George, which is the largest among all the churches in Piran and offers a beautiful view of three countries. It is named after the patron saint of the city, St. George, who is said to have saved Piran during a storm. The church, in its current size, was built in the 14th century and acquired its present appearance after a Baroque renovation in the 17th century.
The interior of the church is adorned with 7 altars, statues of St. George and St. Nicholas, a richly painted wooden ceiling, canvases from the Venetian painting school, and Gothic "Crucifixion" from the early 14th century.
