Koper Regional Museum
Why visit the Koper Regional Museum?
Three reasons: here you will experience the beauty and glitter of the Renaissance and Venetian periods of Koper, here you will discover charming prehistorical artefacts and here you will enjoy in the beautiful museum garden, the Lapidarium!
The Museum was founded in 1911, a year after the successful exhibition entitled “The First Istrian Districs Exhibition”, at which the cultural heritage of Istra was presented.
Today, the parent museum building presents an archaeological collection and collections covering the history of culture, art and history of Istra from its very beginnings to the end of the 19th century. In the pavilion along the Museum’s lapidary, a collection of the recent history of the Southern Primorska region is presented, while at Gramsci Square an ethnological collection is on permanent display.
Under the auspices of the Koper Regional Museum, the Prem castle has also been opened.
